Delivering a purpose built, rapid storage  cloud solution

“The solution was designed from the ground up to be both highly resilient and available.”

Andrew Jobson - Head of IT, FSB

FSB was founded in 2007 by sports betting veterans who understood that consumer demand, live betting, smartphone penetration and evolving European gaming regulations would fundamentally change the operations behind a modern betting and gaming service. Essentially, FSB provide white label services to some of the world’s best known betting platforms.

The problem

Coming into 2020 the problems with FSB’s existing cloud supplier were increasingly evident to the extent they were holding the business back. They were having to make use of an unreliable public cloud with poor outdated hardware driving a 1GB network speeds that restricted growth, not to mention several outages that occurred when infrastructure was updated. On top of this FSB had limited access to the systems, making them over reliant on the supplier and due to the platform original configuration, no real disaster recovery process in place.

Our approach

First and foremost we listened. Then based on our understanding of FSBs specific needs, we built a private cloud based on a hyperconverged all flash storage technology. This solution delivered rapid storage and improved the read/write performance of our systems by 10x and as a result of the Skye solution, FSB have been able to virtualise database servers, without any loss of performance.

Key to the plan was a solution that was split across 2 data centres immediately allowing for a disaster recovery strategy to be implemented. The platform was built with enough capacity that FSB no longer have to burst into public cloud which was a key ongoing issue.

Throughout the migration, Skye provided high level of support and the platform was delivered on time. FSB have a dedicated and responsive account manager in place and 10 months into the service, there’s not been a single outage.

The results

The benefits to FSB have been numerous. On top of the obvious improvement in stability and confidence, FSB have been able to virtualise physical database servers, they are experiencing an increase in performance on all FSB application servers allowing the systems to make more updates per second. It has cut FSB application deployment times by 50%, freeing up developer time to concentrate on application improvements and new features. Financially, the savings to FSB have been significant too..

“Skye Cloud play a fundamental part in the services we deliver to our clients every day and I would not hesitate in recommending them.”
